Richard Branson made a flying visit to Singapore yesterday and I was fortunate to have some time with him.
As we chatted I said “did you connect with OBS?” Richard said that the timings were so tight that he hadn’t thought it would be possible, but if I could work it out now then he would love to see him. (Among Mr Ong’s many amazing achievements was bringing Formula 1 to Singapore). I sent a quick Howdy message to one of OBS’s trusted lieutenants and an hour later we were sitting in Mr and Mrs Ong’s stunning new restaurant, Dempsey Cookhouse.
We had an amazing meal as Richard and OBS discussed far ranging topics from their homes and business interests in the Caribbean, the measures they take to support the local communities to Richard’s Ocean Unite. Richard learned about OBS’s efforts in the Maldives to protect whale sharks and turtles (even down to giving artificial flippers to rescued, injured turtles). In between laughter and some gentle teasing they also discussed geo- politics, sports and most important; opportunities to collaborate and in particular around social causes.
